The past as a catalyst

Born in Glendora, California on 29 February, 1960 as Anthony Jay Mahavoric of Croatian descent.

Tony often referred his own childhood as chaotic and abusive.

The parents of Tony divorced when he was seven years old. Resulting in several adoptions, Tony started carrying the name Robbins when he was twelve

According to Tony, at the age of 17, everything changed when his mom chased him out of the house with a kitchen knife.

Tony ran away and never returned home after that.

His first job was as a janitor, where he earned $40 a week.

During that year, Robbins already showed excellent speaking skills, as he was elected student body president, acting as a voice for the students.

Then one day, Tony Robbins heard about an opportunity to attend a seminar by Jim Rohn. The cost for one seat was $35 at that time, which was nearly a full week's pay.

But that didn't stop Tony from taking the risk, which later turned out to be one of his best decisions ever made

Turning the tides

After the seminar, Tony gathered the courage to walk up to Jim Rohn and apply for a job. Jim felt a burning desire in the young man’s eyes and accepted the offer. Tony went on to become an organiser for Rohn's seminars.

Doing this for several years gave Tony great inspiration and so he decided to start doing his very own seminars.

Later on in 1986, Tony published his first book, Unlimited Powerwhich became a national bestseller.

Growing as an icon for personal development, Tony created his own unique style of presenting it.

Famous for integrating fire walks into his seminars and having high levels of interaction with the audience.

The first infomercial Tony released was in 1988 for a seminar called Leadership Academy, it reportedly reached around 1 million people.

Following up in 1991 with his most famous book, Awaken the Giant Within

In total, Tony sold more than 15 million copies of his books, more than 50 million audio programs and has coached millions of people around the world.

In 2010, Tony had his own reality TV show called “Breakthrough with Tony Robins”. Though the show was short-lived, it evolved into him co-hosting on the OWN Network in 2012.

One year later, Tony disclosed that he had been diagnosed with acromegaly at age 31, which is a disorder most often caused by a brain tumour, resulting in overgrowth of certain parts of the human body.

When Tony was in his teenage years, one year he grew 25 cm and, over time, developed a distinct and deep voice.

Fortunately, the tumour stopped growing, and contrary to what his doctor advised, Tony never underwent brain surgery

Tony has been active since 1977 and shows no signs of retiring anytime soon. He continues to inspire and help people across the globe, and has coached many famous people throughout his career.
