The Five-S method helps you create a more productive workspace in five clear steps.

 

Invented by Taiichi Ohno in 1950.

 

Step 1 Sort

 

Start by sorting between necessary and unnecessary items and removing

the unwanted ones.

 

Goals:

- Avoid distractions

- Optimise  time management

- Increase the amount of space

 

Step 2 Set in order

 

Organize all the necessary items in your workplace.

 

Place items in a fixed place where they can fulfil their function most.

 

Goals:

- Create an easy and smooth workflow

- Avoid all distractions 

 

Step 3 Shine

 

Clean your workplace on a regular.

 

Make a habit of inspecting tools or machinery on intervals.

 

Goals:

- Improve production process

- Improve safety 

- Create a pleasing workspace

Step 4 Standardise 

 

Set up clear and concise rules for your workplace. 

 

Goals:

- Create procedures and schedules ensuring repetition

- Clear tasks for all employees

 

Step 5 Sustain

 

Make sure to sustain the new standards and prevent your workplace from getting messy again.

 

Goals:

- Ensuring that the Five-S method is applied 

- Create positive feedback loop
