On Monday, Google revealed that it will be investing $1 billion, or 36 billion Thai baht, in Thailand to build a new data center and expand the nation's cloud infrastructure.

With this development, Google is stepping up its global expansion efforts in Asia and placing AI at the centre of its strategy at a time when it is up against fierce competition from businesses like Microsoft and OpenAI.

Google announced on its Thailand blog on Monday that the investment will result in the establishment of the company's first data center in Thailand.

According to Google, the first data center in Thailand will be situated in the eastern province of Chonburi.

Jackie Wang, Google's country lead for Thailand, stated in the blog post that the facility will "help support the growing demand for Google Cloud and AI innovations, as well as popular Google services such as Google Search, Google Maps, and Google Workspace" in Thailand.
