Growing up
Jordan was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, on 12 June 1962.
During his teenage years, he was a member of the New Democratic Party (NDP), a federal political party in Canada.
While in college, Jordan was heavily inspired by The Road to Wignan Pier, written by George Orwell.
Education
Jordan extensively studied from 1971 until 1993:
- 1971–1979: Graduating from Fairview High School.
- 1979–1981: Studying political science and English literature at Grande Prairie Regional College.
- 1981-1982: Transferring to the University of Alberta, finishing his BA in political science.
- 1982–1983: Traveling through Europe while studying the Cold War, totalitarianism, and philosophical works of Nietzsche, Jung, Dostoevsky, and Solzhenitsyn.
- 1984: Returns to the University of Alberta and receives a BA in psychology.
- 1985-1991: Moving to Montreal and attending McGill University to receive a PhD in clinical psychology.
- 1991-1993: Post-doctoral fellow at McGill's Douglas Hospital to research familial alcoholism and social psychology related to that behavior.

Career
Jordan lived in Arlington, Massachusetts from July 1993 to June 1998.
During those years, Jordan was teaching and researching at Harvard University as an assistant professor in the department of psychology.
He became a professor at the University of Toronto in 1998.
The main subjects of his research was psychopharmacology, personality psychology, and psychology of religion.
Jordan had a clinical practice, which he put on hold in 2017 and temporarily stopped teaching in 2018.
Social media presence
Jordan's social media career started in 2013 with the creation of JordanPetersonVideos, as a channel on YouTube.
This initially started with content of Jordan's lectures and interviews, later expanding to doing podcasts in December 2016 on the channel called
The Jordan B. Peterson Podcast.
Short clips from already available content are gathered on the YouTube channel called Jordan B Peterson Clips, which was launched in 2017.
Jordan's first YouTube channel gathered more than 1.8 million subscribers and received more than 65 million views by August of 2018.
Jordan then signed a deal with the news company called The Daily Wire in June 2022, which distributes his video and podcast library.

At the time of writing, Jordan has written and released 4 best-seller books:

Peterson Academy
Jordan recently launched his own online academy in 2024, called Peterson Academy.
This online platform focuses on down-to-earth education of subjects like psychology and philosophy.
Courses provided in the Peterson Academy are lectured by professors from universities like Harvard, Cambridge, and Stanford.
